Tanning

  • What advice does glöden offer people wanting to use a sunbed?

The most important advice we offer people is “everything in moderation”. Don’t overexpose your skin whether on a sunbed or in the sunshine. Know your skin type and how it reacts to UV light.

There is plenty of information in our studios and a member of staff available. Start tanning with only a few minutes and never exceed 20 sessions.

Always wear protective goggles and do not use a sunbed if you will be sunbathing later in the day or you have already been sunbathing.

  • What are the benefits of tanning on a sunbed?

There are a wide range of known physical and psychological benefits. Developing a base tan can provide four times the level of protection for your skin when you are outdoors. UV rays provide an important source of Vitamin D which is essential for the body’s absorption of calcium. It regulates the growth and repair of bones, and strengthens the immune system. Sensible tanning can alleviate the symptoms of skins disorders such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. There is also evidence that UV rays can help prevent certain cancers.

  • Would you ever advise someone not to use a sunbed?

Yes, People should avoid using a sunbed if they have fair skin which is prone to burning or skin with a large amount of moles. We advise people to avoid using a sunbed when taking certain medications such as antibiotics because these can make the skin sensitive. Certain medical skin conditions should not tan so if in doubt consult your GP before using a sunbed. Young people under the age of 18 are not allowed to use a sunbed after April 2011.
